Crazy Couple Weeks

Wow.  These last couple weeks have been kind of crazy!  I've already written about my abscessed tooth.  Well, that pain-in-the-tooth (sorry, couldn't resist) bugged me for about a week.  On the 15th, I had an appointment with the oral surgeon to get 7 molars out.  Two of those were my bottom wisdom teeth.  Thankfully, the top wisdom teeth haven't formed and shouldn't. Yay!  The first few days were rough.  I slept off and on for the first few days.  The kids enjoyed their multiple sleep-overs at Grandpa & Grandma Berg's during this time.  In fact, I think they got a little too used to it, because Jacob kept asking to go back for a sleep-over the first couple nights they were to be back home.  He just didn't quite understand that I was feeling better now and that they'd be staying home instead of going back to Grandma's after dinner.  We've all adjusted better now.  The goal now, is for my mouth to heal 100% and then we'll finish up the dental work in the near future.

I've just started a "Household Helps" chart with the kids!  The kids are really liking it, well, mostly Hailey, but Lexi and Jacob have been doing well with it, too.  One of the things I put on it was "get dressed" in the daily helps section.  I came to a realization yesterday with that help, it also means that I have to get dressed everyday!  That's going to be a stretch for me, because I like to just stay in my pjs most days.  This will be a good way to get used to getting going every morning and being more productive throughout the day.  Another help that's going to keep me in check is "homework".  We've done well remembering to have Hailey do her reading or any other school work she has to bring home, but it's working on the alphabet and numbers with Lexi and Jacob that I've been slacking.  Yesterday was the start of working on the alphabet with Lexi and some other kind of work/craft with Jacob.  I'm still working on when to work that in to our day, but for now, we'll just do it when we have the concentration for it.  Yesterday and today look like it's going to be after naps, but ideally, I'd like to try to get it done in the mornings.  We'll try that tomorrow.

I'll update my 365 Project photos at a later time.  I'm participating in a challenge where our photo of the day corresponds with the letter of the alphabet that we're on.  It started yesterday with "A," today was "B," and so forth.  I think it'll be fun and challenging at the same time.  I'm going to try to not just have a picture of something that starts with the letter, but hope to find the actually letter created by nature, signs, buildings, etc.  It'll make me keep my eyes open to seeing beyond the surface sometimes, which isn't a bad thing to do at all times, either...

What a Day!

So, today was the day for my surgery...7 teeth.  Wow.  We were supposed to be in GF by 8:30am.  We were about 15 minutes late this morning because we couldn't get out of our driveway.  Our driveway runs east and west.  With the lovely north wind we had all day yesterday and last night, it completely filled in.  Wendell went out at around 7am or so this morning to clear it out so the bus could get in to pick up Hailey and so that Aaron and I could get to GF for my appointment.  It was VERY slow going.  After 45 minutes, Wendell wasn't even half way down the driveway.  At that point, one of our neighbors with a bigger tractor came and started from the other end.  They had cleared just enough of a path by 8:15 so we could get thru with Aaron's pickup.  I love ND winters! :)
Our driveway after church on Sunday...

Our driveway just before we were able to drive thru...

On to the surgery.  I found some humor in where the surgery center was located...it's just behind Dairy Queen!  I couldn't eat or drink anything after midnight last night and I was hungry and thirsty as we're driving by DQ.  Then, at the check-in counter they had a bowl of chocolate hearts!  Found that a little funny. :)  Anyways, once I was in my room, I found myself getting a little nervous.  I had to watch a short video about wisdom teeth and all the possible complications.  I realize it's just so we as patients are informed, but do they really have to say that getting anesthesia could result in death?!  So at that point I started praying...I needed God's peace at that moment.  Then, just like at any other time I've had to have my blood drawn or an IV put in, my veins decided to hide in the first arm they looked at for getting my IV for my "drugs".  Thankfully, my right arm usually cooperates when it sees that my left is being a wimp. :)  They started giving me the antibiotics, pain med, and the stuff to knock me out.  He put that in first and I think I was out before he finished with the other 2.  Recovery has been pretty good.  Slight pain, but nothing like when I had the abscessed tooth.  Praise God!  I've been sleepy and a little off-balanced this afternoon, but doing well for just having 7 teeth out.

This a sign that's along interstate on the way to GF and I found it quite fitting in regards to what I wanted to tell the oral surgeon. :)

Happy Valentine's Day!

Today is Valentine's Day.  We, as Christians, were given the best Valentine's gift ever when God gave us Christ who ultimately gave us life - everlasting life!  Praise God!!

8 years ago this Valentine's weekend, Aaron and I were visiting back home for the first time as an engaged couple.  I remember being on cloud 9.  Aaron had proposed to me on the 7th and I don't think I stopped smiling for weeks!  One day we'll have to "re-create" that proposal night by going out to eat at The Old Spaghetti Factory in downtown Minneapolis.  That is still my favorite restaurant!  For now, I'll be very thankful for my husband and enjoy the chicken and potato dinner he's cooking for me tonight. :)

Tomorrow morning is the big day.  I'll be getting 7 teeth pulled...2 wisdom teeth and 5 molars.  It will be an anxious morning for me, but I'm praying all goes well and I can keep my nerves under control.  God is the God of Peace and I know that He'll be right there with me.

Now time for my 365 photo update!

Meds  2/3/10
I went to the dentist today because I had a really painful tooth ache.  It's infected, so now I have two new meds to take.  Hopefully the pain subsides tonight so I can sleep well.

Refuge  2/4/10
Still not feeling totally up to par today.  This is a photo of our couch which has been my place of refuge the last few days.  Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day for me and I'll actually be more willing to take a good picture!

Hidden Treasure  2/5/10
I started going thru the kitchen cabinets tonight in an effort to declutter some more.  Taking baby steps so I don't get overwhelmed by it all.  One of the boxes I found was marked "pottery dishes from Dawn" and I found this hidden treasure inside!  My husband & I received these as a wedding gift 7 years ago.  When I opened the box after the wedding, I only pulled out the blue dish because I didn't want to try to pack everything back into the box for our trip to our house...Imagine my surprise when I pulled out 4 different colors!!  :)

My Husband Loves Me  2/6/10
My husband brought me home some flowers this afternoon!  Here's one of the flowers.  I had a lot of fun photographing this beauty.  Thanks for the flowers, hun! :)

Sunday  2/7/10
Today was spent at home in the house because of the snow we're getting...again.  So, the flowers from my hubby became my model for today again.  Here's the carnation that's in the bouquet.

Love is...Grandmas  2/8/10
We've been hit with another snow storm.  We live on the same farmstead with my in-laws and this is a picture of Grandma playing outside in the snow with the girls.  She was a life-saver for me at that moment as we've been stuck in the house for a few days and the kids were starting to get a little cabin fever.  It's not the best picture, but the best I could get taking it thru a window without them catching me.  :)

Love is...A Comfy Hotel Stay!  2/9/10
After having a rough week, my husband treated me to a hotel stay last night.  I was able to take a nice LONG, hot shower followed by a LONG, hot bubble bath without any interruptions from little ones!!!  I think this was also the first night this week that I slept in a bed instead of on the couch at home.  Thanks, hun! :)

Love is...Cuddles With Daddy  2/10/10
This is my husband and son enjoying some cuddles while watching a movie this evening.  My son is sucking on his thumb which signals to us that he's getting tired.  It was always a nice sign to watch for when he was still a baby telling us it was naptime.

Baking  2/11/10
This afternoon I decided to do some baking.  I was planning on doing a few different banana recipes because I had quite a few that were over-ripe.  Unfortunately, most of them were too over-ripe that I didn't want to use them. :(  I did have 3 that were good, so I made a batch of "Banana Crumble Muffins" and then a batch of chocolate chip cookies.  :)

Rubber Ducky  2/12/10
Today my son woke up much earlier than his normal wake-up time which also meant that the normal routine would have to be a little different today.  Everything was done earlier than normal, including bath time.  I'm very thankful that a bath can completely change my son's grumpy attitude!

Hershey's Kiss?  2/13/10
Tomorrow is Valentine's Day and it happens to be my turn to bring snacks for our church's Sunday school.  I found this idea online and thought it would be fun to do.  These are rice krispie treats made to look like a Hershey's Kiss!  :)  It was A LOT of work, but it'll be fun to see what the kids think when they see them tomorrow morning.  The little flags say "God Loves You!" and "Jesus Loves You!"

I love heredity!!

I'm going to preface this with:  I love my heredity! ;} (that's full of sarcasm)

On Tuesday the 2nd, one of my back teeth was starting to really hurt.  Wednesday was painful so Aaron took me in to the dentist in Mayville.  Found out I have an abscessed tooth.  Picked up some antibiotics and pain pills.  Been taking those and a little ibuprofen mixed in every once in a while for a few days.  The last couple days have been doing just fine with only a few ibuprofen a couple times a day.  Icing has been my life saver...helped with some of the swelling and taking away the pain. :)

Part of today has been spent calling a couple dentist/oral surgeon offices to set up an appointment to get some teeth taken out.  A little back story...my mom's side of the family doesn't seem to have the best genetics when it comes to teeth.  Take my mom for example.  She had a full upper plate (denture) by the time she was 23 years old.  Now, I'm 28.  I can't ever remember a dentist appointment that I didn't have a cavity...and that's with brushing regularly!  At the dentist appointment on Wednesday (the 3rd), the dentist tried to not have to say I'd be needing at least a partial denture.  It was actually kind of comical as I was sitting there just waiting for him to finally say that was going to be one of my options.  I think he was kind of relieved when I told him that I actually considered myself lucky for making it to 28 before having to have this discussion being my mom was younger than I was when she had to have a full upper.  The funniest part of the whole experience was when he first came into the room after I had my x-rays taken.  He starts off with, "So, are you allergice to any teeth?"  To which I responded, "Yeah.  All of them!" and mustered up as much of a smile as I could as that moment without too much pain.  Anyway, I now have an appointment for tomorrow with another dentist in Fargo who will be doing the 5 of the extractions.  At least that's the plan.  Tomorrow's appointment is for him to take a look at my teeth and probably decide if he can do the extractions or if I have to go to an oral surgeon for them.  I need to get 5 molars and 2 wisdom teeth out.  Thankfully, Aaron has been with Transystems long enough where he was finally eligible for insurance and we had decided a few weeks ago to get the dental plan.  A little bright spot in this whole ordeal.

Basically, please pray for me.  I've never liked going to the dentist because I've always needed some work done.  I don't like pain.  I know in the long run this is going to be best for me, but I still don't have to like it right now.  I'm a little anxious about the whole cutting out my wisdom teeth.  The internet can be a source of too much information and I just need to not look into it any more.  I'm a little anxious, nervous, and just really want the healing process to go smoothly and quickly.

This also happens to be my photo of the day for my 365 Project.  A mailbox.  Two years ago today, we moved our little family of 5 from Nebraska back to North Dakota.  Hard to believe it's already been 2 years.  Thankfully, we didn't have much snow to deal with as we moved all our stuff in to the house up here.  If we were to move this year, it would be quite the challenge with all the snow that's up by our front door.  We are truly thankful for all the people that helped us move...we couldn't have done it without you! :)  Hopefully, we won't have to ask for your help moving after one last move into town when we can buy our own house.  Don't worry, you'll have some time yet before that happens. :)

Now on to updating my pictures for 365 Project!
Dress-up  1/26/10
The "theme of the day" for the last couple days at our house has been dress-up.  Here's a picture of my 3 watching daddy play Wii Mario-Kart this evening.

Three Piggy Opera  1/27/10
Today my 6 yr old's class performed "The Three Piggy Opera" at school.  My daughter played the part of the piggy who built her house out of bricks and got to sing a solo part.  All the kids had made their own piggy mask/headband.  She made sure hers had eyebrows and eyelashes!  I was quite proud of her.

Movie Night  1/28/10
We had a movie night with the kids tonight.  We lay out a big blanket on the living room floor, have the kids wear their pajamas, get their pillows, and then we eat some popcorn while watching a movie together.

Taxes  1/29/10
Finished up my part of our taxes this afternoon!  My husband is still waiting on one of his W-2s and I didn't want him to be waiting for me to finish my business stuff.  Glad I made the kids take a nap!  :)

Happy Bling Birthday  1/30/10
Today we celebrated my first year doing my jewelry business!  My "mom" bought me this cake to help celebrate my bling birthday.  It was super cute and totally me! :)

Boys and Their Toys  1/31/10
This Uppercase Living decoration is perfect for my son!  Trains, planes, and cars are truly some of his FAVORITE things!

"Once Upon A Time"  2/1/10
My son decided to "read" a book to me tonight.  He starts out with "once upon a time..." and then makes up a story according to what the pictures show.  :)
